This is the first single from American alternative rock band, Brand New's album, The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me.
The song title is a reference to Stephen King's novella, Secret Window, Secret Garden, in which the character John Shooter has written a manuscript entitled "Sowing Season."
According to the liner notes of the single release, written by frontman Jesse Lacey, the song's second verse is an allusion to Rudyard Kipling's poem, If. It says "2nd verse adapted from 'If' by r. Kipling and how it used to hang from my father's wall."
