Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about No Excuses. By Songfacts®.

"No Excuses" is about lead singer Layne Staley's battle to overcome his heroin addiction. The band went inactive two years later when his drug problems became too troublesome. Staley died of a drug overdose in 2002.

This song was released on Jar of Flies, the first EP (extended play, like an LP except shorter) ever to top the Billboard albums chart, where it debuted at #1 on the chart dated February 12, 1994. This made Alice in Chains the third band from the Seattle grunge scene to top that chart, following Pearl Jam and Nirvana.

"No Excuses" was not sold as a single, but was pushed to radio ahead of the Jar of Flies release and got lots of airplay, building anticipation for the EP.
