During this horn-flecked cut, Ed Sheeran gives us a glimpse of the difficulties that come with maintaining a relationship while on tour. I remember bein' on tour, stayin' up on the phone 30-minute conversation, "Boy, when you comin' home? I can't be buildin' a family life here on my own" Baby, I'm doin' it for us, so why you takin' that tone? Like I'm the bad guy Sheeran feels he is working hard for his family, but his partner is frustrated that he spends so long on the road.
American singer-songwriter H.E.R. delivers the hook, taking the part of Sheeran's romantic partner. She maintains that she's not interested in the money he's earning, she just wants his time.
Sheeran and H.E.R. co-wrote the song along with Joe Reeves (MoStack's "Respect & Love"), Sheeran's regular collaborator Fred Gibson, and Nineteen85.
