Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Roll With It. By Songfacts®.

This song preaches the importance of being yourself, a point of view that often features in Oasis tracks. Noel Gallagher admitted to Select magazine: "It's just a typical Oasis thing. 'Shut up moanin' and f---in' get on with it...' It's the same sentiments as in nearly every song we do. You know, Supersonic – 'You've gotta be yourself.' It starts to get a bit boring (laughs), but those are the lyrics I feel comfortable with."

The song was released as a single on August 14, 1995, the same week as Blur's "Country House." The British media had already reported an intense rivalry between the two bands and this clash of releases was seen as "The Battle of Britpop". Though Blur initially appeared to be victorious when "Country House" reached #1, one place above "Roll With It," Oasis' album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? later proved to be a much bigger success than their rivals' The Great Escape.

This was the first track that Oasis recorded with their new drummer Alan White, and the version that you hear was also the first take. Noel Gallagher said: "I consciously tried not to put her big rock and roll guitar solo on it, 'cos I'm sick of doing that. So we just put a little tiny rock 'n' roll guitar solo on it."
