Here, Ariana Grande is wondering whether she's healed from a breakup and is ready for another relationship. The pensive singer questions whether love is completely off the table. Her love interest, The Weeknd, tells Grande he will wait until she's ready. He assures her he is in a better place than a few years ago and will give the songstress his all. He doesn't think love is "completely off the table."
The slow R&B jam is the second collaboration between Ariana Grande and The Weeknd, following "Love Me Harder" from her 2014 album My Everything. As well as questioning the future of a relationship, the Toronto singer's verse doubles as a commentary of his career trajectory. At the time he recorded "Love Me Harder," The Weeknd was a rampant drug user leading a hedonistic lifestyle, and he admits that at that time he could not give her his all. He was in "a dark place" back then, haunted by "the hills," but now he assures Grande he can "love you harder than I did before."
Grande recorded "Off The Table" for Positions, which comprises 14 short songs. At exactly 4:00 minutes, this is the longest song on the album.
