Swiss Metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music that originated in Switzerland in the late 1980s. It is characterized by its melodic, often progressive sound, and its use of traditional Swiss folk instruments such as the alphorn, the hurdy-gurdy, and the accordion. Swiss Metal bands often incorporate elements of traditional Swiss folk music into their sound, as well as elements of classical music, jazz, and progressive rock. The genre is often associated with bands such as Eluveitie, Samael, and Celtic Frost.
