Manguebeat is a Brazilian music genre that emerged in the early 1990s in the city of Recife, in the northeastern state of Pernambuco. It is a fusion of traditional Brazilian rhythms such as maracatu, coco, and frevo, with modern electronic music, rock, and hip-hop. The genre is characterized by its fast-paced, upbeat rhythms and its use of traditional Brazilian instruments such as the zabumba, the agogô, and the reco-reco. It is often associated with the tropicalismo movement, which sought to combine traditional Brazilian music with modern influences.
