Welsh Hip Hop

Welsh Hip Hop is a genre of music that originated in Wales in the early to mid 80s, with the first Welsh language recordings being released in 1986 and reggae influenced Hip-hop records from Just The Duce aka DJ Jaffa and MC Eric (later of Technotronic) and Time To Panic with Benji Webbe (later of Skindred) coming later that decade. Welsh Hip-hop is often characterized by its focus on Welsh culture, humour and history, with many different regional accents and idiosyncrasies. Along with Welsh Grime and other forms of Rap music, It has become increasingly popular in recent years, both in Wales and internationally, with old skool artists such as 4Dee and Xenith gaining greater recognition alongside many of the newer artists.
