Anarcho-punk is a subgenre of punk rock that developed in the early 1980s. It is characterized by its lyrical content which often focuses on anarchist and anti-authoritarian themes, as well as its DIY ethic and its rejection of mainstream culture. Musically, it is often characterized by fast tempos, distorted guitars, and aggressive vocals. It is closely related to the hardcore punk and crust punk genres. Notable bands in the genre include Crass, Conflict, and Discharge.
