Euskal Metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music that originated in the Basque Country of northern Spain and southwestern France. It is characterized by its use of traditional Basque instruments, such as the txalaparta, alboka, and trikitixa, as well as its incorporation of traditional Basque folk music. It is also known for its aggressive sound and its use of Basque language lyrics. The genre has been popular in the Basque Country since the early 1990s and has since spread to other parts of Spain and Europe.
