Erhu is a two-stringed bowed musical instrument, sometimes referred to as the "Chinese violin". It is used as a solo instrument as well as in small ensembles and large orchestras. Erhu music is a traditional Chinese music genre that dates back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It is characterized by its unique sound, which is produced by the sliding of the bow across the strings. The music is often melancholic and haunting, and is often used to evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing. Erhu music is often used in Chinese opera, as well as in traditional Chinese folk music.
