Early Reggae

Early Reggae is a genre of music that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s. It is a combination of traditional Jamaican mento and calypso music, as well as American jazz, rhythm and blues, and soul. Early Reggae is characterized by its heavy use of the offbeat, or skank, and its distinctive bass line. It is also known for its use of syncopated rhythms, as well as its focus on social and political issues. Early Reggae is often associated with the Rastafari movement, and its lyrics often contain references to Rastafari beliefs.
