Proto-Metal

Proto-metal is a genre of rock music that emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is characterized by a heavy, distorted sound, often with blues-based guitar riffs and extended guitar solos. Proto-metal bands often incorporated elements of psychedelic rock, hard rock, and blues-rock. Proto-metal bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple are considered to be the pioneers of the genre, and their influence can be heard in later metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Metallica.
