The Aquabats started out as a novelty band, parodying the third-wave ska movement that was popular at the time. Early live performances contained an elaborate horn section, sometimes reaching 15 people at a time.
The Aquabats are known for their mythology; this includes their claim that they are superheroes saving the world from evil, through the power of music. Band members adopt pseudonyms, and include "fighting" an evildoer as part of their stage show.
blink-182 drummer Travis Barker (under the pseudonym "The Baron Von Tito") played drums on The Aquabats' album The Fury of The Aquabats. He was also part of the band's touring lineup from 1997-98.
