"Vermilion Pt. 2" picks up the story from "Vermilion," where Slipknot lead singer Corey Taylor takes the guise of a stalker who is tormented by his thoughts and has lost touch with reality. "Vermilion" is very loud and aggressive (typical Slipknot) but Part 2 is a quiet acoustic song. The lyrics to both songs are similarly disturbing but set against very different music. In Part 2, it's as if Taylor has released all his fury and is now quietly contemplating his lot but coming to the same conclusion.
Corey Taylor later revealed that the girl he's singing about is an embodiment of his addiction. "Vermilion" and "Vermilion Pt. 2" are both on Slipknot's Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses album, released in 2004 when he was "a wreck," but taking the first steps toward getting sober.
The music video is also a sequel, starring the same girl who walked dreamlike through the "Vermilion" video. This time, she wakes up in a field, floats to the sky and comes back down. We're still not sure if she's real, but it's looking more and more like she's not on the same plane.
