Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Needles. By Songfacts®.

This quizical System Of A Down song seems to deal with control. The word "needle" shows up just once in the lyric: Sitting in my room With a needle in my hand Just waiting for the tomb This certainly suggests drug use, likely heroin - shooting up puts you under its control. The refrain, though, is: Pull the tapeworm out of your ass That would be an awesome title, wouldn't it? Tapeworms are parasites that live in the body, so the metaphor here would be to shed people and behaviors that are taking from you without giving anything back.

This intense rocker is one of 14 songs that made the Toxicity album of about 30 that were recorded. These other songs leaked on the internet in 2002, so the band quickly packaged them into their next album, which they titled Steal This Album!

Rick Rubin produced the song along with System's creative engines, guitarist Daron Malakian and lead singer Serj Tankian. Malakian and Tankian wrote it.
