Drake shares some of the things here that have happened to him on his road to success, including dropping out of school right before graduation and working at Jaydees Connections, a former clothing store in Toronto. He also expresses his wish to keep his friends close and his enemies at a distance.
The song starts with a joyful sample of the Detroit gospel group The Winans 1984 tune "The Question Is." Drake's producers 40, Boi-1da and Cubeatz previously borrowed from the same track's outro for the beat of the rapper's promotional single "Summer Sixteen."
The song is the title track of Drake's fourth studio album. Its name is a reference to Toronto's CN Tower, which features on the cover.
