The beat for this track was supplied by New York native Vinylz, who also produced "Fire Squad" on Cole's Forest Hills Drive album, as well as Nicki Minaj's "All Things Go" from The Pinkprint. The song came together when Cole took a trip to the east coast. "He called and said, 'I really want you to sit with me and work on this album for the whole week – and he didn't really sit with many producers, it was just two or three," Vinylz recalled to MTV News. "So I played him a bunch of beats, he picked about 15 of them and that's the one that stuck out."
