When the Pistol Annies debuted "Got My Name Changed Back" during Lambert's Country Music Hall of Fame residency on September 26, 2018, Angaleena Presley assured the audience that the song "has nothing to do with us and is about no one in this group." Er, sorry, Angaleena, we're not convinced.
The Pistol Annies are well known for tackling real issues that they've been through in their lives, with a splash of humor. When they wrote this song they saw it as a fun way of addressing the pain of a marriage split. Lambert told ABC Radio it was a way of "reclaiming your humor after you've been so sad, heartbroken and all the things divorce is. To me it's celebrating, reclaiming a part of yourself."
