Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Hungover & Hard Up. By Songfacts®.

This song about a heartbroken guy turning to the bottle to get over a lost love was built over a hip-hop beat borrowed from another project producer that Jay Joyce was working on.

Chief is the third album on which Joyce worked with Church. The producer's other credits include the rock group Cage The Elephant and country folk stalwarts Emmylou Harris and Patty Griffin. Church admitted to initial reservations about their pairing, which was suggested by his publisher. "He didn't know Merle Haggard from Bill Haggard," the singer told Associated Press writer Chris Talbott. "Jay just didn't know. And I think because he wasn't exposed to that, there were no rules. Jay didn't know that in country music you're supposed to have steel (guitar), you're supposed to have fiddle. He had no clue. He just knew he was supposed to make the song sound the best that it's supposed to sound. That's what I love about him."
