Marina told The Sun that when she started writing Electra Heart she was depressed, so her early songs, including this synth-pop paean to regret, are dark. She explained: "That's why I'm talking about death in that song. I was in a dark place."
Marina explained the song's meaning to Amazon as: "The feeling that you have not lived your life to the full."
The song was not included on the US version of Electra Heart. It was replaced by "How To Be A Heartbreaker," a track Marina wrote after completing the album.
