Running to three-and-a-half minutes, "Into The Fire" is track six on the classic In Rock album, the third track on Side Two of the original vinyl. In Wait For The Ricochet: The Story of Deep Purple In Rock, Ian Paice is quoted thus on it: "The story of someone who is making a mistake, taking the wrong plunge." Thankfully, by and large Deep Purple members have not taken the wrong plunge; the only one who did was Tommy Bolin, who replaced Ritchie Blackmore in 1975 and died from a drug overdose in December the following year. As of the end of 2016, the only other member to go to that great gig in the sky was Jon Lord, who died from pancreatic cancer in July 2012 aged 71.
