Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Stop The Clocks. By Songfacts®.

This song was written by Noel Gallagher in 2001 while his brother Liam was recording vocals for "Stop Cryin' Your Heart Out." It was originally intended to be included on 2004's Don't Believe The Truth, but was left off the final track listing. The song has since achieved something of a legendary status amongst Oasis fans, with studio and live versions leaking onto the internet over the years. It was eventually included as the closing track on Gallagher's solo debut album, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.

A dream that Noel had one night was the inspiration for the song. He explained in an interview with Tokyo's J-Wave radio station in 2002: "It's wondering about if you were dead, how would you know you were actually dead, how would you know you were actually alive. When you go to bed and you dream dreams... if you never woke up, how would you know? Maybe we're all just dreaming now."
