Not Responsible

Written by band members Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan and Roger Glover, this feral rocker tells the story of a guy who goes on an unapologetic bender, and is ready to do it again. After all, he's not responsible for his actions.

In The Complete Deep Purple, author Michael Heatley says this track is "A departure from the obvious commercial sound of the rest of the album." Its uptempo nature does rather undermine that claim; the song has some blistering lead guitar work from Ritchie Blackmore.

Gillan drops an obvious f-bomb in the first verse when he sings: "I got no ticket, but I'm gonna take a f--king ride."
