This rockabilly pop rocker is a contemplative ode to being proud of your younger self. Miley Cyrus explained to NPR, "I think when you are a teenager, young adult, you're trying so hard to be cool or to prove something or to be something away from who you've been as a kid. And I guess as I've gotten older - what 'Younger Now' says is, even though it's not who I am, I'm not afraid of who I used to be."
The song's production fuses country and electropop. The producer is Oren Yoel, who first worked with Cyrus on the Bangerz ballad "Adore You" and since then has been a frequent collaborator of the singer.
The music video, co-directed by Cyrus alongside Diane Martel, evokes all things 1950s. In particular it pays homage to Elvis - Cyrus has long spoke of her love and admiration for The King, whom she considers one of her biggest inspirations.
