Soon after marrying guitarist Tom Bevitori, Alela Diane released her fourth album, 2011's Alela Diane & the Wild Divine, which included both the singer's father, Tom Menig, and her husband backing her. Bevitori and Diane's relationship subsequently fell apart and the breakup experience colors her fifth album, About Farewell. Diane tells us on the title track: "I heard somebody say That the brightest lights cast the biggest shadows So honey, I've got to let you go." Tellingly,Bevitori did not contribute to About Farewell as Diane reverted back to the stripped back sound of her earlier records.
