Jack Garratt told NME this is the most somber and macabre track on Phase. He explained: "It highlights that we're all just people, but instead of celebrating that, it finds a way to negate that."

Most of the tracks on Phase were written and produced solely by Garratt. However, American hip-hop producer Anthony Kilhoffer (Kanye West, Rick Ross) helped him at the start of this song, then Garratt took the track away and finished it himself.
