Avril Lavigne wrote the lyric to "Losing Grip" specifically about an ex-boyfriend who didn't provide the emotional support she needed. Says Lavigne: "It doesn't matter now, and plus I got a good song out of it."
Lavigne says she likes performing this while she's mad - "And I'm always mad at boys."
Lavigne wrote this song with Clif Magness, who produced the track. Magness was one of the writer-producers Arista Records teamed Avril with when they signed her. Part of her appeal was that she wrote her own songs, but she was just 17 and couldn't do it alone.
