Somebody Like That

Weyburn, Saskatchewan native Tenille Arts developed an interest in songwriting after she received a guitar on her 14th birthday. Arts began posting videos of her cover versions of popular songs, and after the Nashville industry executive Hal Oven discovered her singing Taylor Swift's "Fifteen" on YouTube, she briefly moved to Music City, but returned to Canada to finish high school. In January 2018, Arts appeared on the reality television series The Bachelor performing an original tune titled "Moment Of Weakness," which led to a record deal from the indie label Reviver Records. "Somebody Like That" is the third single from Arts' second album Love, Heartbreak, & Everything in Between.

Tenille Arts penned the song with two other women: Allison Cruz and the track's producer, Alex Kline. The writers talked about getting away from writing breakup songs and set out to pen something positive. Inspired by the longstanding relationships in their families, they came up with a tune that looks positively at love, but still has substance to it. Arts explained to American Songwriter: "The day we wrote 'Somebody Like That' was one of those days when I just didn't want to write anything sad. We decided to write something hopeful, and something that looked forward rather than looking back. It is about always looking up to the great love around you. It is about realizing that love isn't always like a Disney movie. It has its ups and down. This song gives a realistic vision of what love truly is."

Arts explained to The Boot that they penned the song over two writing sessions. "We kind of had a base laid down, and we knew we wanted to keep working on this song, because we thought it was something special," she said. "So we did two writing sessions for this one, and I remember walking out thinking that it was really great, and I couldn't wait to share it with my team."
