In the grand tradition of music awards leaving at least one nominee fuming, the 2023 BRITs were no exception. When the gong for Best Hip Hop/Rap/Grime Act went to Aitch, it did not sit well with Central Cee. His irritation found its way onto his track "5 Star." I felt like a pr--k when I went to the BRITs They gave the award to a guy called Aitch Aitch responded with this diss track pointedly titled "A Guy Called?"
Throughout "A Guy Called?" Aitch methodically dismantles Central Cee's gripes. Among his key points: Aitch challenges Central Cee's credibility, accusing him of using ghostwriters: "Not wrote one verse since '022, them ghostwriters made you a star." He revisits the BRITs snub, rapping: "We can go bar for bar, BRIT for BRIT." He accuses Central Cee of being mildly obsessed with him: "We both know that you're Aitch-obsessed, I've been runnin' since your entrance." Aitch even throws in a dig at Central Cee's ex, Madeline Argy, and her hairstyle, because no feud is complete without dragging in someone who probably just wanted a quiet night in.
Aitch bookends the track with two well-placed samples. It opens with footballer Declan Rice announcing his BRITs win, as if to say, "Yes, I really did win, and I've got receipts," and closes with a snippet from Central Cee's 2020 track "Molly, "where Cee himself once compared his rise to Aitch's - back when they were presumably on speaking terms.
