Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about 1000 Deaths. By Songfacts®.

A song with this title first appeared on the internet in early February 2010, but was swiftly removed due to a copyright claim by D'Angelo. We finally got to hear the war-themed tune when it appeared on the singer's 2014 Black Messiah album.

The song starts with a rallying cry sampled from the late chairman of the New Black Panther Party, Khalid Abdul Muhammad, that portrays Jesus as a "black revolutionary Messiah."

D'Angelo wrote the song with Kendra Foster of Parliament-Funkadelic, who is credited as a co-writer on eight Black Messiah tracks.
