In this song, Rivers Cuomo sings about how when he meets a girl, he starts to fall in love with her and thinks she's the one he wants to spend the rest of his life with, only to find out she's a lesbian (in Nazi Germany, an upside down pink triangle was used to identify lesbians - it has since been appropriated as a gay pride symbol). He wants to know why she can't be a little straight, since everyone is a little bit queer.
Matt Sharp was busy working on his side project, The Rentals, when the band headed to the studio to remix the song for radio airplay. Scott Riebling (former Letters to Cleo bassist) filled in for the "Pink Triangle" sessions, which wouldn't be released until the 2010 deluxe edition of Pinkerton.
A radio contest was held with the promise of the band playing at the winner's high school. As a result, Weezer performed an acoustic version of this song at Shorecrest High School in Seattle, Washington, on November 6, 1996. Footage of the performance is included on many of the band's releases, including on their 2004 DVD, Video Capture Device.
