Interesting facts and trivia about Chelsea Girl - 2001 Remaster. By Songfacts®.

Ride is an UK rock group formed in Oxford by co-vocalists and guitarists Andy Bell and Mark Gardener. Bell and Gardener both went to Cheney School in Oxford and after moving to Banbury to do Foundation Studies in Art & Design at North Oxfordshire College and the Oxfordshire School of Art & Design they met drummer Loz Colbert and bassist Steve Queralt.

This is the opening track of Ride's debut release, Ride EP. Andy Bell told Q Magazine the theme of the band is escape. "The first line of our first song, 'Chelsea Girl,' goes, 'Take me for a ride' - basically, get me out of Oxford. We wanted to escape the small town and see what was going on in the world."

Ride disbanded in 1996 after clocking up six UK Top 40 singles. Andy Bell went on to form Hurricane #1 and later joined Oasis and Beady Eye. The band reformed in 2015 after Beady Eye broke up.
