This is the lead single by Cuban-born American rapper Pitbull, from his seventh studio album, Global Warming. The song features Colombian pop star Shakira. Pitbull recorded his part in the Dominican Republic while Shakira recorded hers in Barcelona.
Pitbull explained to Billboard magazine that the "Global Warming" album title is because "we've been here for years, which is the same thing" as climate change.
