Robin Thicke, Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, Ali Payami and Onika Maraj are the credited songwriters on this track.
The song features an animated verse by Nicki Minaj. Thicke previously collaborated with the New York MC on "Shakin' it 4 Daddy" a track from his 2009 album Sex Therapy: The Experience.
The lyrics were inspired by Thicke's well-publicized breakup with his wife Paula Patton. "I just heard this idea of getting back together and getting yourself back together," the singer told Good Morning America. "What I was going through at the time, I really related to that and connected with it. It's more about the theme of getting yourself back together with love and partnership."
