Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Coming Home. By Songfacts®.

This song peaked at #20 on the US charts, making it Cinderella's third best selling single. It's off the band's second album, Long Cold Winter. As highlighted in our interview with Cinderella frontman Tom Keifer, on this album he was attempting to shift the band to a more evident Blues sound. Tom states, "we started to have more organic instruments - pianos and acoustics." This song is a prime example. It's opening measure features Tom on a 12 string guitar arpeggio picking chords that segue into a Blues influenced power ballad.

Coming Home. It's a universal them. The lyrics underscore Tom Keifer's life on the road. City to city, overnight bus rides. Only knowing what town he's in by having someone write the name of the town at the top of that night's set list taped to the piano or on the stage floor in front of the microphone.

The video features a man headed home on his motorcycle, and you sense he has a long, long, ride. His motorcycle breaks down, he starts to walk, then hitchhike, and he makes it home to his loved one. You can close your eyes and remember the times when you were coming up the road or getting off a plane and the excitement you felt. This song reflects all of those emotions.
