Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Bom Bom - Radio Edit. By Songfacts®.

This slice of brass-driven summery ska is the debut single by Sam & The Womp, a collective formed in September 2009 by the joining of trumpeter Sam Ritchie's gypsy dub band QDOS with producer/bassist Aaron Audio. So what is a womp? Ritchie explained to The Daily Star: "We like to say that the Womp is the space between the bass and your face and out of that comes a dance move we have called The Womp. You put your hands in the air, make sure your palms are facing towards you and then I say: 'Embrace the bass.'" "You bring you're hands towards you and out with the sound of the bass," he continued. "Soon the audience's knees are bent and their pelvises are going so it's a really bouncy move."

Ritchie told The Daily Star regarding the song: "It started off as a funky, brassy instrumental. Bloem, who's known as Lady Oo, was dancing in the band but was promoted to vocal duties and it became a fully fledged pop song."

"Bom Bom" came to many people's attention in the UK when it was used to soundtrack a Southern Comfort advert.
