Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Figaro. By Songfacts®.

Like Mozart's opera "The Marriage of Figaro," this song takes place in Spain and is about a charming young man with the same same. Tony Hiller, who founded Brotherhood of Man and was their manager, wrote the song with group members Lee Sheriden and Martin Lee. Hiller told us: "My daughter had just come back from vacation in Spain and was full of stories about the young waiters trying to romance the young girls."

This was the third UK #1 hit for Brotherhood of Man, following "Angelo," which was also titled after a man's name.

The first construction of Brotherhood of Man lasted until 1972, when all new members took over. Hiller explains: "The bands were very different in style. The first was a real 'soul' band, and the second was well and truly pop."

This second version of the band didn't fare well in America, as they had lost momentum when material stopped being released there.
