Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about I Would Like To Call It Beauty. By Songfacts®.

Both "Are You Here" and this jazz-flavored emotional track were written by Bailey Rae in the wake of the death of her husband Jason Rae from an accidental overdose in 2008. In an interview with the Observer Music Monthly the Leeds-born artist was asked if this song is about finding beauty even in the darkest times. She replied: "Yeah, in a way it is. You find out there's a lot of beauty and grace even in the darkness. In the way people treat you, in nature, in the things you maybe took for granted. There is something miraculous that pushes you along, makes you keep going, makes you carry on. It's really about the mystery of that. In fact, the whole album is about that in a way; it's about loss but it's also about hope, about keeping going and trying to find that beauty."

The song's title came from a late-night conversation Bailey Rae had with Jason's younger brother on how they viewed God. Her late husband's brother said he believed in a force that binds everything, holds everything, adding, "I would like to call it… beauty." So powerful was the sentiment that the singer took it for the song title, and credited him as its co-writer. Bailey Rae commented in publicity materials: "I have experienced a lot of beauty in the loss, in the way that I've been able to survive. The way I feel like I'm being held - held up. I guess the song is about the amount of beauty that is in grief because of the way that people hold you up, and forces and nature, how they hold you up."
