This is a melancholy ballad, sung in almost whispers. It tells the story of a man who thinks about the trouble in his past: I've dealt with my ghosts and I've faced all my demons Finally content with the past I regret He states that he's finally found peace with himself, now that he has moved away from the town that he lives: I never dreamed home would end up where I don't belong I'm movin' on
"I'm Movin' On" was written by the Nashville songwriters Phillip White and D. Vincent Williams. White's credits include "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On" by Neal McCoy and the Reba McEntire songs "He Gets That From Me" and "I'm A Survivor." Williams also wrote "Hands Of A Working Man" by Ty Herndon and "Oklahoma" by Billy Gilman. Rascal Flatts used session musicians at this time. On this track, they included: Tim Akers - keyboards Brent Mason - guitar Jonathan Yudkin - strings Lonnie Wilson - drums
This was the fourth single from the first Rascal Flatts album, following "Prayin' For Daylight," "This Everyday Love" and "While You Loved Me." The band got a big promotional push from their label, Lyric Street Records, a subsidiary of Disney, and all four singles charted on Hot 100 and made the Top 10 of the Country chart. Rascal Flatts went on to become one of the biggest hit-makers of the '00s, with 10 #1 Country hits.
