Interesting facts and trivia about Steppin' Out. By Songfacts®.

Steel Pulse is a politically charged reggae band that examined the perilous state of the world throughout their Earth Crisis album. But even revolutionaries need to let loose every now and then. "Steppin' Out" is a dance break, with the band belting out some joyful lyrics over their elastic grooves.

This was written by the group's frontman, David Hines, who sprinkled in some Arabian Nights imagery with his boasts: Open sesame, here comes Rasta man Climb Aladdin's ladder hotter reggae hot

This became one of Steel Pulse's most popular live songs, but it eventually wore thin on David Hines. In a 2019 Songfacts interview, Hines said: "I'd lose 'Steppin' Out' in a heartbeat if I could, but because of the fans, we keep it in.
