The Why Me? Why Not. album was named after a couple of John Lennon self-portrait drawings. Gallagher bought Why Me? from a John Lennon art exhibition in Munich in 1997 and Why Not was given to Gallagher by Lennon's widow Yoko Ono years later to complete the set.
Gallagher was originally going to call the album Omnipresent, then he wrote this song with a chorus inspired by the names of Lennon's drawings. When you get so down you could cry Count the love you got Fill your heart with why me? Why not? Gallagher told Q magazine: "It's got a 'Come Together' vibe - Its all been done before. I'm not down on myself! I just want to be humble because I always want to be better."
Gallagher penned the song with Simon Aldred, who also helped write "For What It's Worth." Aldred's other credits include Sam Smith's "Leave Your Lover" and Avicii's "Waiting for Love."
