Home Is Such A Lonely Place

This melodic slow-tempo ballad was singer and bassist Mark Hoppus' idea. Producer John Feldmann told Fuse: "It was Mark's lyric of 'Home is such a lonely place with you.' His son is probably the smartest guy I've ever met, Jack [Hoppus.] He's a Mensa kid. He's literally studying at Oxford right now. He's 13. We were talking about what the day is going to look like when we've had our families for so long, what's going to happen when they leave? What are our lives going to look like when we built them around our children? He had this concept of our kids being gone. Everyone cried when we played it for them. Mark and Travis made it sound Blink to me."

Former Evanescence member David Hodges contributed to the writing of three tracks on California including this tune. He has also co-penned hit songs for Kelly Clarkson and Christina Perri.

The heartfelt music clip was filmed by director Jason Goldwatch using Super 8 cameras. We observe Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and Matt Skiba bidding farewell to their families before heading out for tour. "The video for 'Home is Such a Lonely Place' was probably the easiest we've ever filmed," the band wrote in the clip's description. "All we had to do was be ourselves at home with our family and friends, as we prepared to leave for tour. Consequently, it's also our most personal and honest videos, and one of my favorites."
