Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Restore Me. By Songfacts®.

Prior to the writing of his Restoration album, Lecrae was struggling with clinical depression, anxiety, marital problems, and a loss of faith. After a trip to Israel with a group of Christian hip-hop artists, Lecrae returned home spiritually renewed. He went to therapy and repaired his relationship with his wife. During the 14-track set, Lecrae takes the listener on a journey from being in the middle of the chaos to mending what was broken and receiving holistic restoration and healing from God. This brief song sets the tone for the album, describing Lecrae's struggles with faith, and trials, tribulations and trauma that had surfaced in his life.

The song starts off with Lecrae rapping: I lost everything I had inside a couple years Lost my faith, I lost my mind, I lost a lot of tears Lecrae explained to Christianity magazine: "'I lost everything' means that no matter how much money you make, no matter how many mountains you climb, or how much success you have, if you are not whole and healthy, and if you can't understand where your true joy comes from, then it's all a loss and you don't have anything. You just have numbers in your bank account and that cannot fix your marriage, or help you deal with your mental stresses. We'd like to be able to swipe a credit card and have a happy family, but it doesn't work that way. I shed a lot of tears, I went through depression, anxiety, I struggled in my marriage, there was substance abuse, and so many different things happened during that time period that just bought me to a low place."

The song ends with a refrain sung by Taylor Hill, which is Lecrae's prayer to God to restore him. The Los Angeles singer-songwriter Hill also featured on Lecrae's All Things Work Together track "Cry For You" and the Restoration track "Zombie."
