Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Head of the Horse. By Songfacts®.

The Drums frontman Jonny Pierce penned this song about his strictly religious mom and dad, who were anti-LGBTQ. As Pierce is himself gay, the judgmental attitude of his Pentecostal parents made his life uncomfortable. "Growing up in that atmosphere led to a childhood that was riddled with self-doubt, confusion and a lot of self-hate," he said. "I find that the past still dominates a lot of my daily experiences - sometimes to the point of feeling paralyzed. The goal is to heal, and I think I am - but at a much slower pace than I am comfortable with."

The song title is a reference to Horseheads, the town in upstate New York where Jonny Pierce grew up.
