Written by Blackberry Smoke frontman and primary lyricist Charlie Starr, this song is about a man who blames the town he lives in for his problems. "It's about a guy who has just had it with his hometown," Starr explained to Entertainment Weekly. "He says, 'To hell with it! I'm out of here!'"
As the song progresses, listeners realize the problem is his fault and nothing to do with the location. "He might be a ne'er-do-well," Starr admitted. "Maybe he's the one bringing this on himself - regardless, he's leaving and he doesn't care if the town burns to the ground."
Charlie Starr was raised in rural Lanett, Alabama, and readily relates to the man he's singing about. "I know that guy," he said. "In fact, I might have been that guy. A lot of people that I know, myself included, have blamed our problems on a place or a person or a certain situation. Sometimes you just can't see that it's your fault."
