Viva Hate was Morrissey's first solo LP after leaving The Smiths, which did not happen on friendly terms. This song is a tragic one, about a former juvenile actor who falls from being a major celebrity to being an struggling and ignored unknown. Morrissey has never publicly said whether this was based on anyone in particular or just a figment of his imagination. However, it's believed by many to be about Jack Wild, a popular British child star whose acting career collapsed in the 1970's, in part from a heavy drinking problem. Sadly, Wild died of cancer in 2006 at the age of 53.
