Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Moving On and Getting Over. By Songfacts®.

One of the first songs that John Mayer wrote for The Search For Everything in spring 2014, this bluesy tune was inspired by a breakup. However, the singer's mood had lifted by the time he finished writing and recording the tune. "The end has a jam out," he told Rolling Stone. "If I'd had to finish this song a year ago, it wouldn't have this ending. This ending is me coming back to it two years later and going, 'I've moved on, so it gets a happy ending.'"

Mayer explained that the song's funky, uptempo sound stemmed from "a mistake in this little groovebox we found, where we loaded the track in backwards, and that's what gives it this upbeat, constantly refreshing rhythmic thing."
