Tim Burton, who directed the movies The Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman and Big Fish, directed this video. In the January 2007 Q magazine, he said: "They're great guys and a great band, and obviously I got to know them a little while working on the video. Their video was the first one I've ever done, but I really liked them and I had some time so I thought, 'Why not?' It was a special time for me."
The Killers had this song for a couple years without ever being convinced it was good enough to be recorded. It was finally brought to life when bassist Mark Stoermer, who grew up playing the trumpet, had the idea of bringing in real brass.
