Vocalist Ryan Jarman explained the song's meaning to NME: "The lyrics are mainly about the fact that we found ourselves, against our wishes, as part of a scene we didn't feel a part of. It felt like a lot of bands we were associated with at the time had purely gone for the mainstream, Joe Public kind of thing."
